Mike Hackett IASD, MIACP.

M.A. Pluralistic Counselling & Psychotherapy, Dip. Couns., B.Sc. (Hons) Counselling & Psychotherapy, Adv. Dip. Supervision.

Mike's passion for helping people who are struggling with some aspect of their lives was ignited as a volunteer on a telephone helpline back in 1993. His direct experience of the challenges, difficulties, level of isolation, loneliness and the enormous number of people whose mental health was suffering as a result of life circumstances led him to decide to do more and train as a counsellor and psychotherapist. As a result, he founded Introspect Counselling in 2007 to actively support and improve the mental health of people in Dublin's North-side and City and to educate and train other therapists to provide similar services.

Graduating as a counsellor in 2006, Mike was first accredited as a therapist by the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP) In 2009 and in 2015 he became an accredited Supervisor.

As a passionate contributor to the field of counselling and psychotherapy in Ireland, Mike has had several articles published in various journals, has spoken publicly on diverse areas such as resilience, wellbeing, self-care, the business of counselling & psychotherapy and dreams. Further, Mike now lectures at both Undergraduate and Postgraduate level with PCI College in his role as Senior Faculty Lecturer - contributing to the development of the next generation of professional therapists in Ireland.

As a therapist, Mike believes that courage, compassion and connection facilitate change, and creates a strong therapeutic relationship, one of empathy and active, encouraging support. He applies all of these skills to the broad range of issues facing people today including;

  • Challenging relationships.
  • Anxiety and depression.
  • Self-esteem and/or confidence issues.
  • Sex and sexuality issues.
  • Loss of direction or meaning in life.
  • Loss of a loved one.
  • Dreams, nightmares and night terrors.
  • Many more…

As a supervisor, Mike creates a safe, supportive space for practicing therapists (recently graduated, pre-accredited and accredited) in which they can;

  • Broaden their skills and awareness as professional therapists.
  • Feel supported in their clinical work with clients.
  • Manage the myriad responsibilities required of therapists today.
  • Be encouraged to grow as people and professionals.

As an educator and public speaker in the area of mental health, Mike creates a lively, educative and fun space in which professionals and the public can learn about a range of issues including;

  • The clinical use of dreams in modern counselling and psychotherapy.
  • Using dreams for personal development.
  • Resilience skills development at work; for carers; etc.
  • Working with gay/lesbian/bisexual clients.
  • Culture and clinical practice with LGBTQIA+/GSRD clients.
  • The therapist's Professional Will.
